Norton (Premium Claret)

This full bodied, dry red showcases the unique characteristics of Norton, the state grape of Missouri. Diminutive in size with large seeds, Norton grapes are notoriously difficult to process and this wine is a testament to the skill of our winemakers.

The luxurious bouquet demonstrates violet flowers, dark fruit, and rustic earth tones while oak aging provides a palate of depth with blackberry, black currant, vanilla bean, and warm spice. Notable acid provides balance and a lingering, lightly tannic finish.

Native to North America, Norton was pivotal to the United States wine industry in the 1800’s, especially in Missouri, which was considered the wine capital of the New World. Norton rootstock single handedly saved vines across the globe from the infamous Phylloxera bug and has earned its place among the great grapes of the world.
